COA Celebrates World Hepatitis Day

COA Healthcare Centre Abease Roundabout, Cape Coast, Ghana

The Centre of Awareness (COA) Ghana on Friday, 28 July joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Hepatitis Day which aims at raising awareness of the disease as well as encourage its prevention, diagnosis and treatment. World Hepatitis Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked yearly on July 28 by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Speaking on this year's theme "Eliminate Hepatitis" at the Centre of Awareness in Cape Coast, the head of laboratory services of the centre, Francis Obeng Brenya, said hepatitis elimination looks quite simple but the task is very huge. According to him, health education, medical screening and vaccination are key steps to eliminate the burden of the infection. He explained further that the free hepatitis screening organised by the centre forms part of their social responsibility in controlling the diseases in the Central Region. Mr Brenya told class news' Maxwell Attah in an interview that the infection spread through contact with infected body fluidsHe added "most common cause of hepatitis is through sexual contact with an infected person and blood transfusion." He noted that, raising awareness of the different forms of hepatitis and how they are transmitted, safe sex as well as increasing Hepatitis B vaccine coverage could aid in the prevention of the disease. 4Th Global Peace Public Lecture of the Center of Awareness Global Peace Mission (COA-GPM), a non–governmental, non-sectorial and non-religious organisation comes off on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the University of Cape Coast, NECThe annual programme has as its theme “Targeting Leadership Across The Globe to Achieve Global Peace “The uniqueness of this year’s programme is that it coincides with this year’s annual Christians Lent event “The Palm Sunday” which commemorates the Triumphant Entry of the Prince of Peace, Lord JESUS CHRIST to Jerusalem. Presently with the world experiencing Wars, Insurrections, Fundamentalism and Violence from the North to South and East to West the imperatives of Peace must be the Clarion Call of all and Sundry from Leadership to the Ordinary Man on the streetIt is on this premise that the theme for the 4TH Public Lecture must be of great concern and interest to humanity in general especially members of all Faith since every religion talks about Equality and Peaceful Co-existenceThe event will bring together leaders from various fields of Life to dialogue on Peace. The Christian Community in particular should thus renew their thoughts on Palm Sunday and use it as an occasion that must remind and challenge them to always fight on for the good Cause of Humanity just as the Lord JESUS CHRIST did over 2000 years ago. The Public Lecture will be broadcast live on selected national radio and TV stations and also on selected Social Media Portals.
